Ciao Bella!

My name is Shannen.  My fiance and I will be getting married in Tuscany this summer!

How in the world did we decide on Tuscany? My fiance and I took an unforgettable trip to Italy a couple of years ago.  We loved the food, wine and people so much that we said, “When we get married we should do it in Italy!”  We and our families thought of it as a sort of pipe dream, fairytale fantasy.  When he popped the question in April 2010, we really started to explore the idea of a destination wedding more seriously.

I am from Southern California and he’s from Chicago.  We now reside on the East Coast but have friends all over the US.  No matter where we had our wedding, our loved ones would have to travel.  Since our families and friends are scattered, we wanted an extended time to celebrate with them and allow them to get to know each other better; a one day celebration wouldn’t cut it.   Our love of wine, food and travel led us to explore Napa valley or the Santa Barbara/Santa Ynez wine valley. Much to our surprise, when our closest friends and some family members found out that we were thinking of staying stateside, they got “upset!” They WANTED to go abroad!  Some needed a little coxing, but after finding out that most were up for the adventure, our plans got under way.

After a little trial and error to find the right venue, location and travel agent, our friend stepped in to save the day.  One of her girlfriends, was married in Tuscany a couple of years ago.  We connected with “the friend,” saw her wedding pictures, heard her stories, learned more about the history of the venue and we were set.  We followed our gut and ditched our first venue and travel agent; they were pushing us into things we didn’t like and it didn’t feel right (follow your gut!).  Within a week, we contacted the staff at La Foce (A-mazing location and staff) and connected to a new travel agent, Gina Rugiero from Villa Vita.  Gina, has been to the area NUMEROUS times; this was key as she has great recommendations for excursions, restaurants, logistics, etc.  Our date is set for July 2011!

Since then, we sent out our save the dates (about a year in advance of our wedding date) and continue to connect the pieces.  We are enjoying the planning because we LOVE to travel.  We are not only planning the biggest day of our lives but we are planning an amazing trip for our closest peeps!  Can’t get better than that!  Stick along for the adventure as I fill in the details.

(Here’s a pic from our awesome Italian adventure in 2008, in a wine bar in Cinque Terre with the owners.  Couldn’t have been happier!)

Hi everyone! I’m Becca and I’m the newest addition to the Travel to I Do team!

My now fiancé (love him!) proposed to me over Christmas 2010 and although we haven’t yet set a date, I’ve been slowly making decisions about our big day. From important choices such as the destination and size of the gathering, to jewelry and flowers, I’ve been thinking about it all and I’ll be sharing my thoughts and inspiration with all of you!

As it stands we’ve agreed on a summer wedding, which is classic and elegant with only close family and friends as guests. I grew up in Yorkshire (north/central England) and there are so many stately homes and beautiful churches nestled in the countryside that I know would be ideal. However, the idea of a destination wedding in France or Spain also appeals to us and we’ve been looking at various options abroad! What a quandary!  Should be quite an adventure right?

I’m looking forward to sharing my insights, news and tips with you as we all work towards making our big day special and unforgettable!

Cabo San Lucas is one of the hottest destinations in Mexico. It’s located on the very tip of Baja between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez.  And the best news?  It’s super safe.

Villa Del Arco is actually located right in the heart of this town whose main economy is tourism.  The hotel is one of the newest in Cabo which means all of the amenities are top notch and it’s one of the few that actually has a view of the famous arch!  In fact, your room will come with a king bed, luxurious bathroom with shower and tub, full kitchen, and ocean view balcony!!

Because this amazing hotel is right in the middle of Cabo,  it’s easy to enjoy all that this town has to offer.  Here are just some of the options to explore while there!

• Take a boat taxi to Lover’s Beach.  This is seriously a bit of heaven!

• Enjoy loads of water activities including snorkeling, parasailing, & jetskiing

• Take a sunset cruise – most include dinner and drinks!

• Go sport fishing… these waters are some of the best in the world to catch Marlin among many other huge fish!

• Eat at some of the finest (and authentic) Mexican restaurants in Baja.  Again… they are all within walking distance!

• Shop for jewelry and Mexican crafts.  Cabo is known for it’s silver.

And of course, you’ll have ample opportunity to enjoy Villa Del Arco’s amazing pools, hot tubs, and shipwreck bar!

• Open to anyone 21 years or older

• You must have a valid US passport to travel to Mexico

• Round-trip airfare for two (from anywhere in the continental US) and accommodations for seven nights are included.  Baggage fees, ground transportation, meals, and any other costs are not included.

• Winner will be chosen by random drawing from the three cumulative sources of entering (twitter, facebook, and newsletter).  That means each person can enter up to three times.

• The contest runs through March 31st, 2011 and the winner will be notified on April 2nd, 2011.

Paris Engagement

Paris is quite possibly the world’s most romantic place to engaged, don’t you think?  Kelly & Lasha were kind enough to send us some photos of what I’m sure was a dream trip to Paris.  It also happens that they got engaged there too!!

From Lasha…

“Our engagement story is the kind that fairytales are made from. A carefully crafted trip to Paris, car service, champagne, chocolates, a 5 star hotel, everything was set in place for the proposal of a lifetime. After an extremely close friendship of 9 years and dating for one, my soon to be fiance had gone above and beyond to create the perfect setting for our magical moment on New Year’s Eve.

However, every fairytale is just that, a tale. After a delayed flight, missing our first connection to Paris, the airline loosing our luggage and spending hours among hours in customer service lines we finally arrived at our destination.

After wearing the same clothes for three days straight (our luggage never did actually arrive, a shopping trip was executed instead) and canceling many other plans due to having to deal with the obstacles thrown at us, we had survived.

On our third day in Paris we had a quaint, romantic meal in our hotel room, roamed the streets looking at the Christmas lights and finally settled back down for a night of relaxing while watching TV. That is when my fiance decided to ask me to marry him. All of our troubles from the trip melted away and all I could feel was my smile overwhelming my face.

Although we went to an exotic location and stayed at a beautiful hotel, in the end it didn’t matter where we were. All that mattered was how I felt when I was with him. Any moment would have been the perfect moment as long as it was between him and I. “

So romantic!!  Congratulations Lasha & Kelly!
